FREEZY MACBONES - MY STORY.

In 2012, Freezy Macbones (Seth Gyimah) left Ghana for the UK in search of a new beginning. With dreams of becoming a professional boxer, he was prepared to give everything he had to make that dream a reality. But the journey was far from easy. With no income, no job and eventually nowhere to call home, Freezy found himself living on the streets of London. Still, quitting was never an option. He would wake at 3am to train, pushing himself to his physical and mental limits in the hope of building a different future.

Today, Freezy is a professional boxer and an inspiration to many across Ghana — a story of resilience, determination and refusing to give up. These photographs were taken inside a boxing gym in Jamestown, one of Accra’s most historic communities and a neighbourhood renowned for producing household names in Ghanaian boxing. Boxing is deeply rooted in the area, with several gyms scattered throughout the community. This particular gym sits at the heart of Jamestown.

Against this backdrop, the photographs explore not only Freezy’s journey, but the environment that has helped shape generations of fighters from Ghana.
